Re:  Funding for Students in the Halton District School Board

I am writing on behalf of Stewarttown Middle School's Parent Council in Georgetown regarding the education funding formula and how it pertains to the Halton District School Board (HDSB).  Our school council recently learned that HDSB is the lowest funded Ontario English public school board on a per student basis.  In addition, we understand that HDSB has been funded below the provincial average for more than 10 years. This is surprising and very disappointing news especially considering the significant growth in student enrolment that our board has experienced over this timeframe.  We are a very active school council and we work hard to fundraise for additional needs at our school.  It's frustrating to learn that funding from the province does not appear to be fair and that the schools in our board are facing financial pressure due to an out-dated funding model.

Our council would like to understand why the funding formula places our board last.  We ask you to urge the Ministry of Education to revise the funding model and advocate for fair funding for HDSB.
